Answer:

This means that the decimal system is responsible for representing quantities using ten different digits.

Step-by-step explanation:

This means that the decimal system is responsible for representing quantities using ten different digits: 0 (zero), 1 (one), 2 (two), 3 (three), 4 (four), 5 (five ), 6 (six), 7 (seven), 8 (eight) and 9 (nine).

The digits acquire their value according to the relative position they occupy. This position, in turn, depends on the base in question. It has the powers of the number ten as a base. Thus: 10 raised to 0 is equal to 1; 10 raised to 1 is equal to 10; 10 raised to 2 equals 100; etc.

The number 123, for example, has three figures. In the decimal system, it is constructed as follows, respecting the corresponding positions:

(1 x 10 raised to 2) + (2 x 10 raised to 1) + (3 x 10 raised to 0)

(1 x 100) + (2 x 10) + (3 x 1)

100 + 20 + 3

123

As you can see, from right to left, the first place corresponds to the unit (10 raised to 0), the second place corresponds to the ten (10 raised to 1) and the third place corresponds to the hundred (10 raised to 2 ).

Hope this helps!

Find the focus. y= -1/12 (x)² - 6
jolli1 [7]

Answer:

\Large \boxed{\sf\ \  (0,-9) \ \ }

Step-by-step explanation:

Hello,

We know that when the parabola equation is

   y=a(x-h)^2+k

the vertex is (h,k) and the focus is

   (h,k+\dfrac{1}{4a})

Here, the equation is

   y=-\dfrac{1}{12}x^2-6

so

   a=-\dfrac{1}{12}\\\\h = 0\\\\k =-6

So,

k+\dfrac{1}{4a}=-6-\dfrac{12}{4}=-6-3=-9

Then, the focus is

\large \boxed{\sf\ \  (0,-9) \ \ }

I attached the graph, included the focus so that you can see it :-)

Hope this helps.

Do not hesitate if you need further explanation.

Thank you
