This would be the commutative property of multiplication which basically states that a * b = b * a (u can switch the order of the numbers and the answer will be the same)

A right cylinder is inscribed in a sphere of radius r. How do you find the largest possible volume of such a cylinder?
satela [25.4K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Suppose Radius of sphere is R and cylinder inscribed inside the sphere is r with height h

using Pythagoras theorem in shown triangle

R^2=r^2+(\frac{h}{2})^2

r^2=R^2-(\frac{h}{2})^2

Volume of cylinder is

V=\pi \times r^2\times h

V=\pi \times (R^2-(\frac{h}{2})^2)\times h

V=\pi (R^2\cdot h-\frac{h^3}{4})

differentiate V w.r.t to h we get

\frac{\mathrm{d} V}{\mathrm{d} h}=\pi (R^2-\frac{3h^2}{4})

Putting \frac{\mathrm{d} V}{\mathrm{d} h} to get maxima/minima

R^2=\frac{3h^2}{4}

h=\frac{2R}{\sqrt{3}}

therefore radius r is given by

r=\sqrt{\frac{2R}{3}}

therefore volume is given by

V=\frac{4}{3\sqrt{3}}\pi R^3

Please i need help on finding the volume
SpyIntel [72]

Answer:

Volume =  516.1425 cubic feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The pentagon base appears regular.  so every side is 10 feet in length.

Now we need to figure out the area of the pentagonal base in order to find volume.

Volume V = (pentagon base area)*height

I need to find the apothem length as indicated in the drawing.

call it "a"

360/5 =  72 degrees.

36 degrees.

5/a = tan 36 ,    a =  5/(tan 36) = 6.88190  feet.

Area of pentagon base =  5 *  (1/2)*10* a  =  5*(1/2)*10* 6.88190 =172.0475 sq. ft

Area of pentagon base =  =172.0475 sq. ft

V = 172.0475 * 3 = 516.1425 cubic feet
