Garrison was not only anti-slavery, but pro women's rights.  In 1849 his name was a prominent feature of the petition sent to Massachusetts legislature demanding women's suffrage.  After the Civil War and the end of slavery, he continued to write articles in favor of equal rights for blacks and women.
