This idea that the world needs a good cleansing furthers the theme of the poem. It is basically listing all of the ways that the Earth has been polluted and damaged. The other options are not correct. There is no sense of perseverance or overcoming obstacles here in this poem. We also don't seem him saying anything about appreciating nature, since he doesn't actually show why these places are worth cleaning. Also, he does not explain that these dirty places are all a result of modern technology.
