Answer: Option A."Hydrolysis"

Explanation:

Polymers breaks down into monomers following hydrolysis reaction.

hydrolysis is a chemical reaction that occurs when a water molecule inserts across the bond.

In hydrolysis reactions, the polymer breaks or divide into two components one part that gains hydroxyl molecule (OH–) and the other part that gains gains a hydrogen atom (H+) due to split of water molecule.

Hence, the correct option is A.

Animal cells are placed in an isotonic solution. THEN, additional amounts of solute are added to the solution. What happens to t
Nitella [24]

Answer:

The animal cell will shrink due to loss of water to the external solution

Explanation:

An isotonic solution is that solution which has equal concentration with its external environment. Hence, no net movement of water occurs in an isotonic solution since there is no concentration gradient. Therefore, if an animal cell is placed in an isotonic solution at first, no net movement of water occurs because the intracellular and extracellular concentrations are at equilibrium.

However, if more solutes are added to the solution, it makes the solution HYPERTONIC to the cell i.e greater in concentration. This creates an osmotic gradient and causes water to move out of the animal cell into the solution in accordance to osmotic principles (movement of water from a low concentration of solute to high concentration of solute). This causes the animal cell to likely SHRINK.

How do global systems interact to affect ecosystems?
miskamm [114]

is a functional unit that results from interactions of abiotic, biotic, and anthropogenic components and are a combination of interacting, interrelating parts that form a unitary whole.  Ecosystems vary in size.  They can be as small as a puddle, or as large as the earth itself.  Basically, any living and non-living things interacting together can be considered an ecosystem.  Within each ecosystem, there are habitats that vary in size.  A habitat is a place where a population lives.  A population is a group of living organisms of the same kind living in the same place at the same time.  Natural ecosystems are made up of abiotic factors such as air, water, rocks, and energy and biotic factors such as plants, animals, and microorganisms.
