Amanda tells you that because a variable is in the denominator, the equation three over x plus one over three equals five over s

ix becomes unsolvable. Amanda explains, "There is a value for x that makes the denominator zero, and you can't divide by zero." Demonstrate to Amanda how the equation is still solvable and explain your reasoning.

3/x + 1/3 = 5/6
3/x = 5/6 - 1/3
3/x = 5/6 - 2/6
3/x = 1/2....multiply both sides by x, eliminating the x on the left side
3 = 1/2x...now multiply both sides by 2, eliminating the 1/2 on the right side
3 * 2 = x
6 = x

check..
3/6 + 1/3 = 5/6
3/6 + 2/6 = 5/6
5/6 = 5/6 (correct)

so x = 6

One number is 6 times another. The sum of their reciprocal id 14/3. Find the numbers.
nydimaria [60]
Let
x-------> one number
y--------> another number

we know that
x=6y--------> equation 1
(1/x)+(1/y)=14/3-----> (x+y)/xy=14/3-----> 3*(x+y)=14xy-----> equation 2

I substitute 1 in 2
3*(6y+y)=14(6y)y------> 21y=84y²-----> y=0.25
x=6y-----> x=6*0.25-----> x=1.5

the answer is
the numbers are 1.5 and 0.25

An urn contains three red balls, five white balls, and two black balls. Four balls are drawn from the urn at random without repl
Nana76 [90]

Answer:

0

Step-by-step explanation:

total number of balls = 3+5+2= 10

Probability of getting red P(R) = 3/10

Probability of getting white P(W) = 5/10

Probability of getting black P(B) = 2/10

for each red ball drawn you win $6 and for each black ball drawn you loose $9 dollars

E(X)= 6×3/10 +0×5/10 -9×2/10= 0

E(X)= 0
