Andru [333]

Anne Frank's parents were lenient towards her as she had a friendship with a boy, and she was trying harder to learn French, as her origin is German.

What is the significance of Anne Frank?

As per the notes in the 'Diary of Anne Frank' as of September 27, 1942, it has been mentioned that her parents are furious, especially her father because she was a friend with a boy.

In this excerpt form act I scene I of Shakespeare’s Richard III what two purposes does Richard soliloquy appear to serve?
Veronika [31]

The first purpose that Richard's soliloquy appears to serve is to reveal the motivations and personality of the character - we can see that he hates himself because he was basically a hunchback, so he was pretty self-conscious about it. He also reveals in the first scene what he intends to do throughout the play.

As for the second purpose, I'd choose the answer - it informs the audience about the background of the plot, as it gives us reasons why Richard decided to do what he did.

Answer:

B. A comparison between a whirlpool and a black hole is being made.

Explanation:

In this text, the author explains how a whirlpool works. He uses the example of a fish in order to explain this mechanism to the reader. The author describes the way the fish would have to swim in order to resist the force of the whirlpool. The author then tells us that the mechanism the whirlpool uses is similar to that of a black hole. Therefore, the items being compared are a whirlpool and a black hole.
