Answer:

5 inches

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the width ( in inches ) of the border,

Given,

The length of the picture = 43 inches,

And, width of the picture = 27 inches,

So, the length of whole frame ( picture with border ) = 43 + 2x,

Its width = 27 + 2x

Thus, the area of the whole frame,

A=(43+2x)(27+2x)-----(1)

Now, the area of the picture,

A_1=43\times 27=1161\text{ square inches}----(2)

We have, the area of the border,

A_2=800\text{ square inches}----(3)

Thus,

A=A_1+A_2

Equation (1) (2) and (3),

(43+2x)(27+2x) = 1161+800

1161 + 86x+54x+4x^2=1161+800

4x^2+140x-800=0

x^2+35x-200=0

x^2+40x-5x-200=0

x(x+40)-5(x+40)=0

(x-5)(x+40)=0

\implies x=5\text{ or }x=-40

∵ Width can not be negative,

Hence, the width of the border is 5 inches.

Answer:

The border will be 18.6 inches wide

Step-by-step explanation:

<em>Let the width be w</em>

<em>The length = 43 inches</em>

<em>Total wood = 800 square inches</em>

Formula for area of rectangle = length x width

<em>800 = 43 x w</em>

<em>w = 800/43</em>

w = 18.6 inches

Therefore, the border will be 18.6 inches wide.

The volume of a rectangular prism is its length times width times height, or algebraically, V=lwh. You may be used to computing volume with numbers, but remember, a variable is a stand-in for a number. So you can solve this in the same way. Substitute l=x, w= \frac{x}{2},h= \frac{x}{3} into the formula for volume. You get (x)( \frac{x}{2})( \frac{x}{3} ), and you multiply these factors together. As you would with ordinary fractions, multiply the numerators and denominators across. You get \frac{(x)(x)(x)}{(1)(2)(3)} = \frac{x^3}{6}. It seems that the book wants you to simplify by bringing the 6 up to the denominator. Recall the rule x^{-n}= \frac{1}{x^n}, if n is non-negative. The opposite applies so that \frac{1}{6} = 6^{-1}. For your final answer, you write 6^{-1}x^3. This corresponds to answer choice B.

f(x)=-3x+12 represents the amount of ounces of juice left in a bottle after you take x gulps. How many gulps did you take if the
notka56 [123]

Answer:

3 gulps

Step-by-step explanation:

In this problem, f(x) = 3. Plug this into the equation:

3 = -3x + 12

Solve for x:

3 - 12 = -3x + 12 - 12

-9 = -3x

-9 / -3 = -3x / -3

3 = x

A 50-gallon rain barrel is filled to capacity. It drains at a rate of 10 gallons per minute. Write an equation to show how much
makvit [3.9K]

Answer:

The quantity of water drain after x min is 50 (0.9)^{x}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

Total capacity of rain barrel = 50 gallon

The rate of drain = 10 gallon per minutes

Let The quantity of water drain after x min = y

Now, according to question

The quantity of water drain after x min = Initial quantity of water ×  (1-\dfrac{\textrm rate}{100})^{\textrm time}

I.e The quantity of water drain after x min = 50 gallon ×  (1-\dfrac{\textrm 10}{100})^{\textrm x}

or,  The quantity of water drain after x min = 50 gallon × (0.9)^{x}

Hence the quantity of water drain after x min is 50 (0.9)^{x}  Answer
