The common cold is causes by a virus and antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. Viruses are in the grey area regarding living things, they only meet some of the requirements of living things, therefore, the only way to treat a virus is to vaccinate beforehand or treat the symptoms until it passes.

People have built canals and levees to divert water away from its natural flow and prevent floods in residential areas near the
lord [1]

Answer:

Some areas of the Everglades have dried up.

Explanation:

These changes have caused some areas of the Everglades to have dried up. The everglades were known as the wetlands due to the massive flooding that occurred often but these canals made it so that water would not flow into some of the areas in the Wetlands. Therefore, since water never reached these areas they quickly began drying up and making the ground infertile due to the lack of water which the plants need to survive.

Nonpoint sources of pollution a. include smokestacks and automobile exhaust pipes b. are more difficult to control than point so
kifflom [539]
B. are more difficult to control than point sources. This is because A. is wrong (point source), and C. is wrong, because it doesn't necessarily cost less or more to identify the sources. D. may be right, as non point sources are natural, such as snow melts or rain.

In a certain population of genetics students at Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, the gene for attention span has two alleles, A and a
GrogVix [38]

Answer:

Beginning of term: a) 0.7; b) 0.3;

End of term: a) 0.67; b) 0.33; c) no

Explanation:

The population is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, so the genotypic frequencies are:

AA = p²

Aa = 2pq

aa = q²

Where p is the frequency of the A allele and q is the frequency of the a allele.

<h3><u>Beginning of the term</u></h3>

Total population (N): 1000

aa individuals: 90

b)

q² = 90/1000

q= √0.09

q=0.3

The frequency of the a allele is 0.3

a) p + q = 1

p = 1 - 0.3

p= 0.7

The frequency of the A allele is 0.7

<u>The initial number of students with each genotype was:</u>

  • aa = 90
  • AA = p² × N = 0.7 × 1000= 490
  • Aa = 2 × p × q × N = 2 × 0.7 × 0.3 × 1000 = 420

<h3><u>End of the term</u></h3>

Number of students with each genotype:

  • AA = 490 - 280 = 210
  • Aa = 420
  • aa = 0

N = 630

a) The frequecny of the A allele can be calculated as:

p= (2 × AA + Aa)/ 2 × N

Because there are 2 × N number of alleles in the population and the A allele appears twice in the homozygous individuals and once in the heterozyogus.

p= (2 × 210 + 420)/ 2 × 630

p= 0.67

The frequency of the A allele is 0.67

q= 1-p =0.33

The frequency of the a allele is 0.33

c) The population is not at H-W equilibrium at the end of the term, because the observed genotypic frequencies are not those expected by the equilibrium.

Expected AA = p² × N = 0.67² × 630 = 283

Observed AA = 210

Expected Aa = 2pq × N = 2 × 0.67 × 0.33 × 630 = 279

Observed Aa= 420

Expected aa = q² × N = 0.33² × 630 = 69

Observed aa = 0

Using your knowledge of DNA recombination events to complete the following: Propose two ways in which antibiotic resistance may
vlabodo [156]

Answer:

A) Propose two ways in which antibiotic resistance may develop in a bacterium?

Antibiotic resistance may develop in a bacterium through A GENETIC MUTATION and BY REQUIRING RESISTANCE FROM ANOTHER BACTERIUM

B.) Describe how bacterial cells acquire the ability to produce toxins?

The virulent strains of bacteria as in Corynebacterium diphtheria, and Streptococcus pyogenes all manufacture toxins with weighty physiological impacts, unlike the nonvirulent strains which do not manufacture toxins. The toxins are generated by a bacteriophage gene that has been received by transduction.

Svetlanka [38]

Most efforts to identify interhemispheric differences in brain anatomy have focused on the size of three areas of cortex that are important for language, namely: the planum temporale, the frontal operculum, and  Heschl's gyrus.

One distinguishing feature of the way the human brain is organised is hemispheric specialisation, often known as cerebral dominance or lateralization of function. The Sylvian fissure's cortical region directly behind the auditory cortex (Heschl's gyrus) is known as the planum temporale.

Wernicke's area, one of the most significant functional areas for language, is centred in a triangle zone. The area of the frontal lobe that, in primates, covers the rostrodorsal region of the insula is known as the frontal operculum.

Therefore, three areas of cortex that are important for language are: the planum temporale, the frontal operculum, and  Heschl's gyrus.
