The critics of the new deal thought it to a violation of the constitution as it was considered to be based on the strong involvement of the state in the economy and also weakened individual liberty. Conservatives opposed the new deal. According to them, the deal was helping the big business houses by imposing favorable regulations(Suspension of Gold standard).

Conservatives were afraid of the centralizing of power in his hands by controlling the government and the democratic party was considered to be weakening the democracy. There was fear that he was heading towards dictatorship.
