Robbery and murder where very common on the road to the west. Coming across food was rare. Many people froze or starved on the road.
But while it was terrible for most, a lot brought along pigs, chicken, wheat, and other eatable things to last them the trip. This was useful and could make for a better experience. You could tell why you and your family are traveling west, is it for a better life or do you have family over there? Where are you going? Are you rich or poor? How old are you? What is your family like, these factor in.

Otrada [13]

Davidson suggested that bereaved persons need social support, nutrition and hydration, exercise and rest.

Bereaved is someone who is suffering the death of a loved one. Although there were many somatic symptoms in the first few months after the loss, there were no significant health impairments throughout the first six months.

The initial levels of grieving and depressive symptoms were higher in those who were in poorer health, but the trajectories or changes over time were the same independent of health state. The chances of difficult mourning and major depression disorder were significantly higher in those who were in poor health at the time of widowhood.
