After the Turkish war of Independence, Mustafa Kemal became the President of the Turkish Republic and carried out numerous reforms which completely changed the country for the coming century.

1. He abolished the Ottoman Sultanate which also brought an end to the 1300 year old Islamic Caliph system.

2. He changed the country's alphabet from Arabic to Latin, in the hope of better integration with Europe.

3. Ataturk also banned traditional Turkish clothing for both men and women, introducing modern European fashion for everyone

4. Kemal Ataturk also changed the country into a Secular nation without any state religion.
