The senior classes at High School A and High School B planned separate trips to the county fair. The senior class at High School

A rented and filled 8 vans and 8 buses with 312 students. High School B rented and filled 9 vans and 4 buses with 196 students. Each van and each bus carried the same number of students. How many students can a van carry? How many students can a bus carry? (Please Show Your Work).

vans = v, buses = b, students = s

8v + 8b =312s ...eqn 1

9v + 4b = 196s ...eqn 2

divide eqn 1 by 2

4v + 4b = 156s ...eqn 3

eqn 2 - eqn 3

5v = 40s

v = 8s

subst v = 8s in eqn 2

72s + 4b = 196 s

b = 31s

answer

each van holds 8 students and each bus holds 31 students

Find the midpoint of the segment with the given endpoints.
(7,10) and (-1,- 8)
Evgesh-ka [11]

Answer:

(3,1) is the midpoint

Step-by-step explanation:

To find the x coordinate of the midpoint, average the x coordinates of the endpoints

(7+-1)/2 = 6/2 =3

To find the y coordinate of the midpoint, average the y coordinates of the endpoints

(10+-8)/2 = 2/2 = 1

(3,1) is the midpoint

On a coordinate plane, a line is drawn from point A to point B. Point A is at (negative 4, 8) and point B is at (2, negative 4).
xxMikexx [17]

The x- and y-coordinates of point C, which partitions the directed line segment from A to B into the ratio 3:10 is; (-2.6, 5.2)

How to find coordinate points?

The coordinate of the points are given as:

A(-4, 8)

B(2, -4)

Ratio of partition is given as; 3:10

Now, the point at the given ratio is calculated from the formula;

C = [(mx2 + nx1)/(m + n)], [(my2 + ny1)/(m + n)]

Thus;

C = [(3*2 + 10*-4)/(3 + 10)], [(3*-4 + 10*8)/(3 + 2)]

C = (-34/13, 68/13)

C = (-2.6, 5.2)
