Answer:

Monkeyman is characterized as a bookworm who never got into a fight or trouble with anyone.

However in the second paragraph, of the story, regardless of the reputation of the Tigros, he prevented a Lady Tigro from killing Peaches by knocking the blade off her hand.

His courage again is exemplified or expressed when he invited Clean to a fight and when he actually showed up ready to take a beating without any back up other than his grandfather and a woman.

He could have run away when he heard that Clean was after him. He could have also come with a back up of people who were strong enough to help him should the fight get out of hand. Clean could have killed him same way the Lady Tigros wanted to kill Peaches.
