Peripheral nervous system is also called autonomic nervous system. It is responsible for the basic body function. These functions are breathing, shivering, sweating and also digestion. Autonomic nervous can be divided into two other parts.

The Parasympathetic nervous system and Sympathetic Nervous System  

Sympathetic nervous system also prepares our body for stress.  If we find something wrong and we frighten wit it then hearts beat becomes faster.

Parasympathetic nervous system is opposite of Sympathetic nervous system. It helps and prepares our body for rest.
