In the story he has a wife who is very picky and nags him a lot. When his imagination is turned "on", he was usually the hero in what hes thinking and is happy as can be!

4. Poe is a writer in the Romantic era and most of his works deal with intuition and emotion. The subject matter of art should deal with the emotions, and the greatest art was that which had a direct effect on the emotions. So, the audience are expected to have an emotional connection to the story.
