Read this paragraph from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a federal agency focused on the condition of our o

ceans and atmosphere. What logical conclusion can you draw from details in this passage? A significant increase or decrease in the Sun's energy output would cause Earth to warm or cool. Satellite measurements taken over the past 30 years show that the Sun's energy output has changed only slightly and in both directions. These changes in the Sun's energy are thought to be too small to be the cause of the recent warming observed on Earth.Every 30 years, the sun’s output changes and causes Earth to warm up.
Earth’s recent warming must be due to something other than changes in the energy output of the Sun.

We cannot accurately measure the amount of energy the sun puts out.

The warming of Earth’s climate is clearly the result of a change in the Sun’s output.

The best answer is:
B) Earth’s recent warming must be due to something other than changes in the energy output of the Sun.

The paragraph indicates that, although changes in the sun's energy output does affect the temperature on Earth, the changes have been slight and, over the last 30 years in which the Earth has heated up significantly, the sun's energy output has varied only slightly, and has gone in both directions. The implication is that the change in the Earth's temperature must be due to something else.

How do the characters contribute to the theme of Fourteen?
nikdorinn [45]

Answer:

The theme about the unexpected good endings to problems is supported mainly through the character of Mrs. Pringle. The problem of who and how many guests arises from what she wants and is presented through her words and actions. At the end of the play, she announces the unexpected ending by stating how happy she is to have the Prince of Wales instead of Oliver Farnsworth, whom she had been counting on.

All three characters support the theme of people going overboard to reach high social standing. Mrs. Pringle supports this in her reasons for having the party in the first place and the fuss she makes over the details. The words and actions of Elaine and Dunham support the theme in that they provide the ideas that feed Mrs. Pringle’s frustration. They keep her updated on the changing number of guests and the situation regarding the amount of food.

An author's purpose in using rhetoric is to
Gemiola [76]

An author's purpose in using rhetoric is to create a certain effect for the reader.

Rhetoric refers to the use of the figure of speech and other techniques through persuasive and effective writings. The use of the figure of speech helps the author to connect with the reader and vice- versa. It helps in the better understanding and feeling of the story-line.

Some of the examples of rhetorical devices are:

 • Alliteration (repetition of initial consonant sound)
 • Simile (comparison of one object with another, not literal)
 • Onomatopoeia (imitation of the word described.)
 • Hyperbole (exaggeration of words), and so on.
