Read this paragraph from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a federal agency focused on the condition of our o

ceans and atmosphere. What logical conclusion can you draw from details in this passage? A significant increase or decrease in the Sun's energy output would cause Earth to warm or cool. Satellite measurements taken over the past 30 years show that the Sun's energy output has changed only slightly and in both directions. These changes in the Sun's energy are thought to be too small to be the cause of the recent warming observed on Earth.Every 30 years, the sun’s output changes and causes Earth to warm up.
Earth’s recent warming must be due to something other than changes in the energy output of the Sun.

We cannot accurately measure the amount of energy the sun puts out.

The warming of Earth’s climate is clearly the result of a change in the Sun’s output.

The best answer is:
B) Earth’s recent warming must be due to something other than changes in the energy output of the Sun.

The paragraph indicates that, although changes in the sun's energy output does affect the temperature on Earth, the changes have been slight and, over the last 30 years in which the Earth has heated up significantly, the sun's energy output has varied only slightly, and has gone in both directions. The implication is that the change in the Earth's temperature must be due to something else.

3. How does Collins, in his poem “The Names,” contrast the childlike innocence and the horrific in this poem?
givi [52]

Explanation:

His first statement in the poem does the contrasting, which says;

"Yesterday, I lay awake in the palm of the night".

In effect he was saying just as an innocent child goes to bed, so the victims were alive just the day before horrific event of September 11.

Further into the night the innocent child experiences a change, which was expressed with the words;

"A soft rain stole in, unhelped by any breeze". This saying indicates how the innocent people experienced a change that made them victims of a horrific event that claimed their lives.

goldenfox [79]
When I was teaching through UCSC Extension, one of the students asked if I would meet her outside of class for intensive, one-on-one instruction in editing. I agreed. Turns out, she'd been recently hired as an editor by a major player in the industry, and she now found herself in over her head because, actually, she couldn't edit. Her background? She'd been a massage therapist who'd taken to computers when the desktop models first came out, and so she'd begun a small desktop publishing business. As she worked with the various pieces clients gave her, she began to make little corrections here and there. Soon, she was calling herself an editor. (After all, she was making changes in someone else's text, wasn't she?)
