Answer:

The Lincoln-Douglas debates were born out of recriminations over political decisions such as the Dred Scott case and the Kansas-Nebraska Act. These examples—the former dealing with a landmark Supreme Court decision not to include blacks under the list of citizens granted protection by the Constitution and the latter having repealed the Missouri Compromise, granting individual territories the right to determine their own laws regarding slavery rather than prohibiting it in the northern states outright—were symptomatic of a larger public dispute concerning the immorality of human slavery.

The contrasting political philosophies of Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas essentially represented the age-old dispute as to whether decisions of national significance should be left to individual states or should be absorbed in the purview of the federal government. Senator Douglas, a Democrat, represented the former view, Republican Abraham Lincoln, the latter.

Diary Entry.

Explanation:

Dear Diary,

15th June, 1850

Today, we are on our way to the United States. We had to migrate to this new country because there's a disease named Potato blight, that has spread across Ireland. The disease has destroyed our potato crops rendering many of Irish family in starvation, we are one of those families. Our crops is destroyed. too, by the disease and me and my family does not know anything other than farming. There was no other way of any source of income or providing food for us back in our Native nation. It's difficult to leave friends and neighbourbhood that's been familiar to us for so long, but we have to go to this new country.

I don't know how we will be able to survive and settle there, diary. I am just hoping that we get atleast some work which will help us to survive and feed us. We have heard so much of America and that everyone is fed there. People talk about American Dream and asserts that America help to fulfill our dreams. I just hope this to be true. Though, I am afraid that what we will do there. As I said that we don't know anything than farming, what work will we do there? I don't know, all I am hoping is that we may have a good beginning there.
