What did Thoreau mean by his references to the “ruts of tradition” and “castles in the air?”

Thoureau wanted to poit to the fact that following traditions limits us and deprives us from developing our imgination. Thoreau, like other romantic authors, does not agree with tradition.  He thinks it prevents people from finding true greatness and blocks their path to spirituality. "Castles in the air" are simply illusions by which people persuade themselves in something that is not true, in Thoureau's opinion.

Henry Tunstall emigrated to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada in 1872, where he worked at the Turner, Beeton & Tunstall, a business in which his father was a partner. Four years later; however, Tunstall moved to the United States with thoughts of becoming a sheep rancher. He first investigated land in California but soon headed to New Mexico, where land was more affordable. He first arrived in Santa Fe, where he met a Lincoln County lawyer and cattle rancher named Alexander McSween. After talking to McSween, Tunstall was convinced that there were profits to be made in Lincoln County and soon began ranching there.

This organization helped victims during the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995 and also made great efforts during the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. Among these efforts were bringing relatives of the victims of the Oklahoma City bombing to New York City in order to provide grief counseling after the terrorist attacks of 09/11/2011.
