An inhibitory postsynaptic potential is a kind of synaptic potential making the postsynaptic neuron to less generate a potential action. Once the action potential arrives at the presynaptic terminal it then may stimulate neurotransmitters. They will then be into the synaptic cleft to bind into the post synaptic membrane and may influence the cell in an inhibitory way.
