we have

y=2x^{2} -8

Step 1

Exchanges the variables x for y and y for x

x=2y^{2} -8

Step 2

Isolate the variable y

2y^{2}=x+8

y^{2}= \frac{x+8}{2}

Square root both sides

y=(+/-)\sqrt{\frac{x+8}{2}}

Step 3

Let

f(x)^{-1}=y

f(x)^{-1}=(+/-)\sqrt{\frac{x+8}{2}}

therefore

the answer is
