How did the Mexican American war affect the slavery debate?

History

Answer:

The Mexican American War was heavily influenced by the debate on slavery in the United States of America. Ulysses S. Grant, future top military commander of Union Army and president, said that the Civil War was a God´s punishment  for the Mexican American War, a "wicked war" motivated by imperialism and expansion of slavery, in his words. The war was supported by many Americans who saw in it the fulfillment of the Manifest Destiny, the promise that the USA would extent from sea to sea as an expression of the divine will. In the 1840s, in the antebellum years, the debate was focused on whether the new territories should be slavery-free or admit slavery. The opposing positions created another legislative crisis. Under the Compromise of 1850, California was admitted as a free state, but it didn´t decide the status of other new states. Kansas and Nebraska were also political battlefields between pro-slavery and anti-slavery activists.

After what major event did the british government make the colonies bear part of the cost of the empire
il63 [147K]

The correct answer is the Seven Years War/French and Indian War.

From 1754-1762, England was in the midst of the Seven Years War. One piece of that conflict was the French and Indian War in North America.

The war was costly for England to fight on behalf of its colonists, who were being pugnacious and stealing land from the Indians and ignoring treaties.

As a result of the cost of the war that England fought on behalf of its ungrateful colonists, England taxed the colonies.

And people were not happy.

hichkok12 [17]

Answer:

Nationalism was also a new and powerful source of tension in Europe. It was tied to militarism, and clashed with the interests of the imperial powers in Europe. ... Indeed, Serbian nationalism created the trigger cause of the conflict – the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
