Language is flexible in the sense that a single word can have several different meanings. Words can also have positive and negative connotations that affect our behaviour and attitudes regardless of what the literal meaning of the word is. The way in which we use language can also reflect our subconscious, and reveal underlying biases. Finally, language can also reveal things such as social background, culture and age. All of these characteristics are possible because of the flexibility of language.
