Answer:

The progressive movement

Explanation:

The progressive movement was characterized by its activism for the working class. Progressives struggled to end the problems associated with industrialization and urbanization, so we can say that the progressive movement was a political and social movement designed to solve problems associated with urbanization and industrialization.

The progressive movement became very influential in the United States from the early 1890s until the American entry into World War I in 1917. Many people who called themselves "progressives" saw their work as a crusade against urban political leaders and corrupt barons. The era was characterized by the growing demand for effective regulation of trade and industry, a revival of public service, and the expansion of government to ensure that the interests of the country and groups pressed for these demands via. Almost all notable figures of the period, whether in politics, philosophy, education, or literature, were connected, at least in part, with the reform movement.

Historians to this day still debate how to frame the Civil War period, depending on what they see as the most significant causes

There's no perfect answer to this question (even the question acknowledges this problem). In my opinion, the U.S. was put on a path to Civil War the very moment the U.S. Constitution was signed. The Constitution brought a bunch of colonies into a union together, even though some of those colonies relied heavily on slavery and believed that slavery was morally defensible, while others did not rely on slavery and believed that slavery was a terrible thing. It was only a matter of time before the debate over slavery turned into a violent clash over slavery.
