These terms are being replaced because in this way religious diversity can be respected. Remember that "AD-BC" come from christianity:

<u>AD</u>- Anno Domini, this means "in the year of the Lord", it refers to a year after Jesus Christ was born.

<u>BC-</u> before christ.

As you can see, these terms divide universal history based on a religious event from a particular religion.

The terms "BCE-CE" don't make reference to a religious event so anyone can refer to them without any moral or ethical problem.
