Chromosome DNA molecules contain "recipes" for making all the proteins in the cell. Each "recipe" is a gene. Therefore, the gene is a nucleotide sequence of DNA that can be transcribed into an RNA version and consequently translated into a protein. In addition, genes are the molecules that dictate cell function and determine how cells will be differentiated.
