we know that

$y=x+3$ -------> equation $2$

$z=(y/2)$ -------> equation $3$

Substitute equation $1$ in equation $2$

$y=5+3$

$y=8\ ft$

Find the value of z

$z=(8/2)=4\ ft$

if each person taking only one turn,

then

the distance that they can carry the basket is equal to  ------> x+y+z

$(5+8+4)=17\ feet$

$17\ feet > 15 \ feet$

therefore

Yes It is reasonable
