The Greek city states kept fighting with each other and could never join forces. it was so bad that many city states welcomed Alexander the great they believed it was better to be ruled by an outsider and living as one civilization than to keep fighting with each other.

However, after land disputes led to the French and Indian War, France was worried that it was going to lose its hold on its land to the British. During the war, France hoped that allying with the Spanish would provide an advantage in the war. The two countries signed the Treaty of Fountainebleau in 1762. Spain agreed to fight with France, and the French gave up all the land they possessed west of the Mississippi River.
