<em>The irony of this story is that Dickie and his mother live in a suppressive environment and are bound not to learn things about the government. But, Dickie has an inquisitive nature and shows great eager in learning new things. </em>
Mr Jordan senses his interests hence he acts very rash with him. There is no proper explanation as to why a twelve-year-old want to take the truth serum and take a test designed by the government.
