You should always ice it and elevate it on something like pillows. Elevating it helps decrease the blood flow to your broken toe, which helps numb it and helps decrease the pain in your entire foot area. Ice numbs it. You should also always stay off the foot, as that flows blood to your foot and also puts pressure on a broken bone that should heal
