<span>It depends upon what type of cell which underwent the division. If it is a somatic cell and it underwent mitosis, the number of chromosomes remains unchanged at 46 in each cell. On the other hand, if it is a sex cell, the number of chromosomes is halved (23) after meiosis. By the way, mitosis is the term for cell division among somatic cells and meiosis is for the sex cells.</span>
