Multiply 2x-2y=10 by 2,
4x-4y=20,
given:4x-5y=17
y=3
pluck it in
2x-6=10
move the 6 to the right
2x=16
divide

Equation 1)  2x - 2y = 10
Equation 2)  4x - 5y = 17

Multiply ALL of equation 1 by 2.

1)  2(2x - 2y = 10)

Simplify.

1)  4x - 4y = 20
2)  4x - 5y = 17

Subtract equations from one another.

y = 3

Plug in 3 for y in the first equation.

1)  2x - 2y = 10

2x - 2(3) = 10

Simplify.

2x - 6 = 10

Add 6 to both side.s

2x = 16

Divide both sides by 2.

x = 8

------------------------------------
Check your work by plugging in 8 for x, and 3 for y into the original equations.

2x - 2y = 10 & 4x - 5y = 17

1)  2x - 2y = 10

2(8) - 2(3) = 10

Simplify.

16 - 6 = 10

10 = 10

2)  4x - 5y = 17

4(8) - 5(3) = 17

Simplify.

32 - 15 = 17

17 = 17

Therefore, x = 8, y = 3

I'd say

Put one end of the compass on point P and the other end on point Q.

This way, you can construct (part of) a circumference with radius PQ with center P.

If you connect point P with any point on the circumference, this segment will be another radius of the circumference, and thus congruent to PQ.

Solving Two-Step Inequalities
Nuetrik [128]

Answer:

x > \frac{9}{5}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

\frac{2}{3} x - \frac{1}{5} > 1

Multiply through by 15 to clear the fractions

10x - 3 > 15 ( add 3 to both sides )

10x > 18 ( divide both sides by 10 )

x > \frac{18}{10} , that is

x > \frac{9}{5}

How fast is a train going that makes a 330 mile trip in 4 hours?
Elis [28]

ANSWER

The car moves at 32 mi/hr

EXPLANATION

This question is asking us to determine how fast is a train that makes 330 mile trip in 4 hours.

This is the same as calculating the speed of the train:

Speed = distance covered/time taken

The distance covered is 330 mile

The time taken is 4 hours.

Speed =330/4 =82.5 mi/hr
