This question refers to the small text named "The Chess Game", written by Lindsey Rock.

It is revealed that Mr.Browning is lonely and misses his friend Wally. This connection is clearly made once Mr.Browning refers to Wally as Wally Boy and Ol' Wally Boy. By calling Jonathan Johnny Boy, he shows he misses his friend.

Dove-twirl in the tall grass. End-of-summer glaze next door On the gloves and split ends of the conked magnolia tree. Work sounds: truck back-up-beep, wood tin-hammer, cicada, fire horn
A. Poetry of Place

My birthplace vanished, my citizenship earned, in league with stones of the earth, Ienter, without retreat or help from history, the days of no day, my earth of no earth, I re-enter the city in which I love you. And I never believed that the multitude of dreams and many words were vain.
D. Poetry of Family

On the days when the rest have failed you, let this much be yours— flies, dust, an unnameable odor, the two waiting baskets: one for the lemons and passion, the other for all you have lost. Both empty, it will come to your shoulder, breathe slowly against your bare arm. If you offer it hay, it will eat. Offered nothing, it will stand as long as you ask. The little bells of the bridle will hang beside you quietly, in the heat and the tree's thin shade. Do not let its sparse mane deceive you, or the way the left ear swivels into dream. This too is a gift of the gods. Calm and complete.
B. Poetry of Spirit

When the black snake flashed onto the morning road, and the truck could not swerve— death, that is how it happens. Now he lies looped and useless as an old bicycle tire. I stop the car and carry him into the bushes.

Which of the following best states the author’s overall purpose in this text?
Andrei [34K]

Answer:

The option which best states the author's overall purpose in this text is:

D. To inform the reader of a theory that attempts to explain why generations act the way they do.

Explanation:

I looked this question up and found out it concerns the text "What Past Generations Can Teach Us About Our Future," by former Newsweek correspondent Mike Kubic (born in 1927).

According to the article, Strauss & Howe developed a theory that explains and, in a way, even predicts how each generation will act. There are four "turnings" or stages which generations go through. According to Strauss & Howe's observations, these stages always happen in the same order: high, awakening, unraveling, and crisis. The generation belonging to each turning will always present certain traits and behaviors concerning their sense of community, individualism, economic prosperity, respect for institutions, etc.

According to Kubic, this theory has been both praised and criticized, even though, so far, it has been able to successfully make predictions about the American society. However, it is important to note that Kubic does not praise or criticize it himself. All he does is describe and explain it. His purpose is to inform readers about the existence of the theory.

serious question I haven’t had my period in for ever it’s been a while and no I’m not prego either also I’ve been having dreams
erastova [34]
Your dreams might be the result of your fear of what could be happening right now with you. You should tell someone you trust about this... or go to the doctor. Always know that you’re not alone!
