Answer: CARPETBAGGERS

Explanation:

During the postwar period in the South, the positions in the government were almost exclusively divided between white Northern Republicans, those men were labeled by their opposition as "Carpetbaggers". In essence, they were northerners who supposedly hurried to the Southern states with all their carpetbags to seize the political spoils and improve their economic and political situation. Numerous other carpetbaggers were educators, social workers, or missionaries motivated by a sincere missionary impulse.

The term “carpetbaggers” refers to Northerners who moved to the South after the Civil War, during Reconstruction. Many carpetbaggers were said to have moved South for their own financial and political gains.
