I do not think that that Compromise of 1850 was even a very good try at solving the slavery issue. Mainly, it seems to me that the Fugitive Slave Act was sure to make Northerners really unhappy.
I believe it was the Arab Oil Embargo, because during this time we weren’t receiving as much oil so the speed limit had to go down to 55mph to preserve what we did have.
Its hard to see any actual evidence as the 'Masters' tried to keep everything a secret. But I believe some slaves played small pranks on their master as an act of defiance, they would tamper with goods etc. A handful would stand up to their Master and say no but this was rare as they were beaten senseless afterwards.
