In “Museum Indians” by Susan Power, the narrator and the mother have different personalities that could affect their perspectives of life. Power’s mother is a Native American who had to leave her tribe to obtain a job, suffering the mistreatment of others toward her culture. For this reason, she has a sad attitude that her daughter cannot understand, since Power is being raised in a city and has not contact to her mother’s people. Power is less spiritual, which leads to have communication problem with her mother.

Her mother had a "towering force" over her. She was "tall and true" while the narrator was a lot shorter. She's basically a small shadow of her mother in some ways.
