Answer: He thinks America is the most hypocritical and barbaric country in the world due to slavery.

In "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" Douglass argues that the United States is the most hypocritical and barbaric country in the world because of how it maintains and protects slavery. Douglass believes that it is barbaric how the United States claims to defend freedom, justice and equality, and yet keeps a whole class of people enslaved. He states that this is the reason why slaves cannot possibly celebrate the Fourth of July. The rights that they are meant to be celebrating are not actually granted to them.

The statement that best represents Douglass' viewpoint is that He believes America is the most hypocritical and barbaric country in the world due to slavery.

Douglass believes this because the Americans celebrated freedom each year while millions of Americans were not, in fact, free. The United States was founded on the idea that no man should have immense power over another, but people were being owned and treated like property during the era of slavery. Douglass also mentions how the things going on in the United States are more violent and appalling than anywhere else in the World.

irina [24]

The purpose that the flashback serves in Act II of Our Town is to explain how George and Emily fell in love.

Before said flashback, The Stage Manager appears and says that before continuing with the story, we need to find out how George and Emily’s relationship began in the first place, and presents the situation where George and Emily first knew that they were meant for each other while having ice-cream at the local drugstore.

In at least 150 words, explain how and why Miller crafted The Crucible as an allegory.
m_a_m_a [10]

Answer:

Arthur Miller always intended The crucible to be an allegory, and the play's setting (Salem in 1692) and title (referring to both a large pottery tool employed in the firing of pots and the Catholic ritual of recanting sin by dipping oneself in water) establish this from the very beginning.

Explanation:

#1. The play's setting is Salem, Massachusetts - a Puritanical society which forces its citizens under strict rules such as mandatory church attendance or being punished for what could have been considered minor crimes,e.g., not going to church leads someone to spend a month in prison! A combination of strong governance combined with strong belief led many people discontent with their roles in society to rebel against accepted customs.
