Jacksonian Democracy was a government led by a strong president that challenged the other Branches of Government specifically Congress (B). Jacksonian Democracy was also a period of time that constituted an era of increased participation of the "common man" in American politics.

A government led by a strong president and that challenged the other Branches.

Further Explanation:

The Jacksonian Democracy was built on certain principles that aimed at strengthening the position of the President that would be backed by strong, loyal supporters within the U.S. Congress. President Jackson sought to build his presidency on the liberal democratic trends that were established by his predecessor, Thomas Jefferson while expanding the reach of various government organizations into numerous public domains. However, President Jackson did not give much importance to placing government control in the hands of educated government officials but placed primary emphasis on building a loyal party culture by supposedly awarding ‘government positions’ to his most loyal supporters. By this, he attempted to build a strong group of loyalists, that would help in getting all of his policies passed without any hindrance.

President Jackson believed that the executive branch should be granted more powers with respect to that of the Congress, and thereby sought to build his position by relaxing all criteria that would be required for getting voting rights. He also believed that the voting mechanisms should be used to democratically elect the judges of the Supreme Court, who were previously appointed. During his reign, many provisions of state constitutions were re-written to reflect the principles of his presidency. Perhaps the most famous aspect of his Presidency also notoriously known as the ‘spoils system’ was crucially used to systematically consolidate his position within the Presidency. He systematically replaced the Jeffersonian politicians and replaced them with his own supporters, and introduced the system of rotation in civil services, so as to prevent anyone officer from overtly gaining too much power.

A) Analyze how the US government has responded to the increasing complexity of US foreign policy.
kozerog [31]

Answer:

September 11 signaled the end of the age of geopolitics and the advent of a new age—the era of global politics. The challenge U.S. policymakers face today is to recognize that fundamental change in world politics and to use America’s unrivaled military, economic, and political power to fashion an international environment conducive to its interests and values.

For much of the 20th century, geopolitics drove American foreign policy. Successive presidents sought to prevent any single country from dominating the centers of strategic power in Europe and Asia. To that end the United States fought two world wars and carried on its four-decade-long Cold War with the Soviet Union. The collapse of the Soviet empire ended the last serious challenge for territorial dominion over Eurasia. The primary goal of American foreign policy was achieved.

During the 1990s, American foreign policy focused on consolidating its success. Together with its European allies, the United States set out to create, for the first time in history, a peaceful, undivided, and democratic Europe. That effort is now all but complete. The European Union—which will encompass most of Europe with the expected accession of 10 new members in 2004—has become the focal point for European policy on a wide range of issues. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has evolved from a collective defense alliance into Europe’s main security institution. A new relationship with Russia is being forged.

Progress has been slower, though still significant, in Asia. U.S. relations with its two key regional partners, Japan and South Korea, remain the foundation of regional stability. Democracy is taking root in South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Taiwan. U.S. engagement with China is slowly tying an economically surging Beijing into the global economy.
