These historical events were known as "<em>The Greco Persian Wars</em>" or simply "<em>The Persian Wars</em>", occurred around 499 to 449 BC.
The Persians were defeated by Athenian forces at <em><u>"The Battle of Marathon"; </u></em>and Marathon being a town in Greece (<em>the name means "full of fennels</em>") and from the battle, the marathon running race originated.
The Persian army moved toward the south of Attica under <em> Datis </em>and<em> Artaphernes</em> command; and Athenians came from the hills and crushed them.
The Greeks won a decisive victory, marking a turning point in the conflict.
