During their courtship and marriage, John Adams and Abigail Smith Adams exchanged over 1,100 letters, many filled with intellectual discussions on government and politics considered an invaluable account of the Revolutionary War. Abigail, a fierce advocate of rights for women and African-Americans, was an important partner throughout John's political career.

How does changing sentence structure from long to short and choppy help build suspense?
labwork [276]
Changing the sentence from a very long sentence into a short and choppy helps the suspense by not giving the reader a lot of information and making them really think and wonder.
For example:
"The stranger watched, a look in his eyes and this feeling spread throughout my body."

or

"There was a man watching, his blue eyes had this look in them that made me shiver with fear. His pale face held no emotion and made him seem as if he was just a corpse standing on his own."

The second one might sound better, yes, but the second one really makes you think and really builds the suspense.
"Who is this stranger? What does he look like? What feeling spread throughout their body?"

So instead of knowing a lot about this stranger, you know little to nothing and it really makes you want to know more, and definitely build the suspense.

Answer:

The best rebuttal for the counterclaim is:

C. However, most marching band members also get a great amount of exercise and establish lifelong friendships.

Explanation:

If we are to choose a rebuttal, that means we are going to choose something that contradicts the counterclaim, that tries to prove it wrong. According to the counterclaim, some people say that marching bands have only one benefit: to teach students how to play an instrument. If we wish to contradict that, we need to choose the option which says there are more benefits than just that one, and which lists at least a couple of those benefits. That is precisely what letter C does. It argues that, besides teaching them how to play an instrument, marching bands also help students exercise and make friends. Therefore, letter C is the best option.
