Mutations are the alterations that occur in the DNA of an organism as a result of replication error or due to environmental factors. Usually, when many such mutations occur in an organism they tend to change the genetic make up of the organism leading to new genes. If these new genes are advantageous for the organism as compared to the old one then a new species tend to evolve. The newly evolved species is better than the old one. For example, such mutations caused homo sapiens to evolve from apes and it is evident that humans are much more evolved than apes.
