1. What does Siddhartha decide to study? How is that the one field he has been ignorant in?  

  He decided to study himself. All his life he has attempted to escape himself by various methods, and he therefore knows little of himself, he has ignored himself  .

2. Why does he feel an “icy chill”? He compares himself to a star. How is that so?  

He feels alone, because he must completely start his life over. He belonged to no group, had no friends, and was at home nowhere.

3. How is he different now?  

 He is all alone .

4. What is the “Self”? Why has it occupied Siddhartha so?

It is the part of him that contains desire, lust, and is whole life he has attempted to ignore it, eradicate it.  

5. When Siddhartha “awakes” from his dream, what does he see for the first time?  

That he was more firmly himself than ever.
