So multiply first..

2.99 * 5 = $14.95 that she has spent on gas..

23 / 5 = 4.6 gallons of gas left..

But this question is asking how much she had spent on gas, so your answer will be..
She has spent $14.95 on gas..

add the numerator which is the top, and keep the denominator which is the bottom.
