There are two main groups of roots in the mangroves – flat root system and heart root system and top root system.

In the flat root system, primary root is not fully developed while the lateral roots are strongly developed.

In heart root system, there are several main roots which grow vertically into the ground.  

In the tap root system, there is only one single, strong and dominant main root that grows into the ground.
