The enlightenment brought the idea that religion was not something that was no longer needed, the enlightenment proposed to people that they needed to look at something from a rational point of view. instead of looking to religion they looked at facts, science and other things. when it came to power, people didn't think that religion should be at the top anymore. since Enlightenment show the idea to be more rational about things, they decided that believing in a higher being wasn't rational at all
