When we look at the sentence, “The baby is very sleepy,” there is only one noun—“baby.” And, there is only one verb—“is.” When looking at the sentence closer, there are three adjectives—“The,” “very,” and “sleepy.” “Very” can serve as either an adverb or adjective depending on what it is modifying. In this particular case, however, because it is modifying “sleepy,” and “sleepy” is an adjective, “very,” too, is an adjective. As such, the following in bold are correct:
