Why do third parties rarely succeed in national elections?

Social Studies
1 answer:
Alexandra [31]3 years ago

Third parties rarely succeed in national elections because the vote is divided between the two larger parties. Take for example Clinton and Trump. The two largest candidates for the most recent national election, if there had been another candidate named Smith, and he was a third party representative and believe in Pro-Choice, higher taxes, and had similar views of Clinton, it would have diluted her vote and caused Trump to unanimously win the election.
