Earth-centric  model was developed by Greek astronomer Claudius Ptolemaeus in the 2nd century AD. <em>'</em><em>Almagaest'</em> was his main work and it was the culmination of centuries of work done in Astronomy by Babylonian, Hellenistic and Hellenic astronomers. His model involved 80 epicycles to explain the motion of Five planets, sun and moon.

According to Ptolemaic model, Earth is at the centre of the Universe. Moon, Sun, star and planets orbit around the Earth and some of the orbits have epicycles. It is Earth-centred model also known as geocentric model. This model have eccentric motion.
