After the Independence of Mexico, Spain also left the territories of Texas. Indeed the Mexican new government of Agustin de Iturbide allowed the formation of the state of Coahuila-Texas, and people started to move to this isolated region of the country. Then, the government of Mexico enacted legislation that allowed people to claim a portion of land in Texas. It was the General Colonization Law, that granted the head of a family to settle in Texas. Mexico wanted to occupy the territory and limit the invasion or raids from Native American Indians.
