The Jim Crow laws were a number of state and local laws that the colonies in some parts of the American nation introduced. Though the Constitution of the country had already established the abolishing of slavery, the Southern states dominated by white supremacists brought forth the new laws that legalized the racial segregation of the people.
The origin of the name came from a white actor Thomas D. Rice's "blackface" character of Jim Crow in "Jump Jim Crow". Rice's character was used as a form of satirizing the populist police of Andrew Jackson. With the popularity of the character of "Jim Crow", the phrase began to represent the "negro" people.
I would want to have a say on who is in office. Their choices in office effect my life so I would want to elect someone I feel confident making important decisions on my behalf.
